I once got a referral from someone. I can't even remember who they were but the referral was worth $12,000 to our business. I must have impressed them somewhere along the line. Who knows what a bit of kindness could do.

A while ago a friend of mine was looking for an act for an event for her work as she was an events organiser for a specific firm. All of their key acts were asking too much money which would blow their budget. She asked if I knew anyone that would suit their theme as well as be available at such short notice. Earlier that week (and a number of weeks prior) I saw a busker in the CBD that had blown everyone away with his act. People were throwing money at him at the end of it. You could see he wasn't that well off by the clothing he wore and shoes he was wearing. I told her about him and she was very interested to see this act I had witnessed. After seeing him in his usual spot, she offered him a position in the event. He snapped it up instantly. He was a hit with everyone on the day and later told my friend things weren't going well for him. He was down on his luck in his personal life. This was the change for him to be seen and changed his life around. He hasn't been out of work since.

I used to work in computing. About ten years ago, just before I migrated to Australia, an occasional client of mine approached me to build a new website. At the time, it was was work I didn't really do. I could have taken the work and subbed it out but instead I referred it to a friend of mine who had a small but failing web design business. I knew he was good at what he did and just needed a break. It was a big project for a major ecommerce application. My occasional client turned into his first major contract. Not only did it save his business but launched him into a new and growing arena. He's still going well and employs about 20 people.

I help small to medium businesses make more money through smart, machete marketing techniques and I get a lot of referral work from BNI - Business Network International - there are chapters all over Melbourne and the world. We meet once a week to help each other out to grow our businesses. Within about 6 weeks I scored an amazing client that went on to spend around $50K with me - absolutely brilliant. Worked today to help a new BNI member market his business (Steve Eastwood - Small Fish)- he has only been involved with BNI for 2 weeks - 30% of all BNI business comes from visitors. Email me if you want to know more - I hope you get some great business from Facebook - all the best

Hi,
I'm an electrician and did a favour for the elderly guy across the road. He asked me to help change the lights that had blown in his house. Pretty simply job, not really a job for an sparky but I helped him out anyway. A few weeks later I got a call from his son. He put me onto a major project in the CBD. Turns out he is going to have ongoing projects for me. Massive $.

Simon
(Hope I win)
