The Secret to Making Your Competition Irrelevant

Niche marketing is simply focusing your marketing efforts on one segment of the market. By focusing on a niche you can distinguish specific needs and benefits your market may be interested in.

It is common knowledge that we are inundated with marketing message like never before. For this reason it is extremely important to cut through the noise, niche marketing can help you do just that. It allows you to be heard in a very loud market place. It has also never been so easy to start and run a business. With the advancement of communication technology and the web, anyone can run a business from anywhere. What this means is there is a flood of marketing messages, some good and some very bad. The good news is niche marketing will allow your message to be seen more easily by the appropriate people.

Getting the message right both visually and conceptually is the key to niche marketing success. Stop trying to sell your product or service to everyone and start selling to someone specific; someone who is interested and will listen. That's what niche marketing does since it is completely focused on a particular kind of person. This allows the message to be specifically designed to reach a particular type of person.

SME's cannot afford to compete with the multi-national companies with multi-million dollar marketing budgets by trying to sell to everyone. You must get involved in one specific area and make the most of it. The more specific you make your niche, the less competition you'll ultimately have and the more money you could make. It really is a balancing act; you do still need to make sure there is a large enough niche that will make your business profitable.

Niche marketing can be easier said than done if you are not aware of the most profitable ways to promote your business. Large companies often may not be interested in these smaller niche areas because they have a larger reach. For most small businesses selecting a small niche is highly profitable.

Find a niche market with a need and supply them with a unique solution. Almost every business that has succeeded has started out with this basic principle. Mainstream product or service providers may have overlooked a small but profitable product or service that fills a need.

All you need these days is a computer with an Internet connection and if you have a good idea you can start a successful business online. But what will make it really grow is having a niche market you understand and are focused on. You can even do it on a limited budget if you have a niche and are prepared to think creatively to reach it.

With modern communication techniques of social networking, blogs and interactive web applications people are interacting in new online communities. These new technologies are often great ways to target your particular niche in a more accurate way than ever before.

Niche marketing is also low risk since you are not spending large amounts of money trying to reach a market already accounted for by the larger players. It's about leverage. Use your niche to leverage your position in the marketplace. This will usually take you well beyond where you would have been without a targeted niche.
