When social media is concerned, we have found LinkedIn is the best way to become known in the professional, business to business environment. Facebook or Twitter are great if you are marketing a feel good product to the general public but when it comes to b2b. LinkedIn is the way to go.

The biggest issue with most of those on LinkedIn is that their profile itself works against them. There are a few tactics that you can use to make your LinkedIn profile work for you and attract more business professionals to at least look at you and have a better chance of choosing to work with you.

When it comes to your image, consider the photo you use in your profile. It is the first thing visitors to your profile see and if you’re honest, the first thing you look at when you visit someone else’s profile. Make sure your picture presents you in the best possible light and if it doesn’t, it is time to upload a new photo of yourself. Try to express your personality in the style of photo you use. For example if you are fun, adventurous person and business, show it visually.

Keywords

Too many entrepreneurs simply enter information on their LinkedIn profile page and forget why they are using this media. Using generic keywords will not attract them to your profile. Think about what people may search for to find a business and person like yours and use those keywords throughout your profile.

Personality

Your prospects want to connect with interesting people. Please don’t be boring on LinkedIn. Sure it’s great to simply get noticed frequently but if you really want to engage your prospect show your personality and be memorable. Read through what you have written and get rid of all the boring stuff that won’t interest anyone. Most people are not going to read it anyway and if they do, won’t be impacted by what you have to say. Whatever you write on LinkedIn, make sure your personality shines through. Your picture and your keywords may invite people to read more about you however, if you are boring and lack excitement, chances are they will keep looking.
